Single Released – Waiting For The Moon
After a little work and a little fun – Digital 96 have released our first single officially. The song was written, recorded and produced by both myself and Jason Havenhand, who I have known as a friend and associate since 1989. Vocals are by the awesome Soraya Vivian.
The track is called Waiting For The Moon and was recorded using Cubase 6 on our main DAW in the studio. Then mastering was done on Wavelab 7.
We wanted to experiment with a track that we were not too precious about and see how the digital distribution thing really works. The lyrics were inspired by a time way back in 1996 when I first visited Thailand. I remembered standing on my balcony looking out over the street and taking in the ambience and listening to the music. It was an amazing time.
Waiting For The Moon
I stand and look out from my room – And hear the music flow around
The fragrance in the airThe beat and rhythm start to bloom – I’m moving closer to the sound
I can feel that you are thereYou’ve got to – Move to the music – All night – Alright
You’ve got to – Move to the music – AlrightWe walk together hand in hand – We dance until the morning light
Feeling safe in our cocoonHere in this wild and misty land – The city sleeps until the night
Always waiting for the moonYou’ve got to – Move to the music – All night – Alright
You’ve got to – Move to the music – Alright
Over the years I have often thought about how great it would be to be able to market your own music (and video). Of course you cannot ever beat the marketing and promotional power of an official record label. But for smaller projects like this one it seemed ideal.
And what a great feeling to see your own music available to preview and of course buy in iTunes and Amazon etc. At the time of writing the track is live at iTunes but the distribution to the other areas takes some time. the deal even includes Amazon On Demand where you can order a physical CD which are pressed on an “on demand” basis.
Here’s the Tweet from Digital 96 which includes the iTunes link.
Needless to say – shortly after we had hit the submit button – it became obvious there were a few things that could have been done better. This is so often the case and sometimes you just have to stick with what you have – and remember that other folks who hear your music will not notice that HiHat that is a bit loud unless you tell them to. Hehe. Incidentally the HiHat is supposed to be like that. Shhhhhh!
I also plan to release a number of my more popular older songs sometime soon. Some of the songs that had a lot of interest and were requested on local radio when I was in Dubai. It will be an interesting experiment to re-record and re-vocal some of them too.
Variety is the spice of life eh.
Thanks for reading.
